Over six DAYS, we held our annual football draft. Last year, we had the rare feat of a team going undefeated all the way through our fantasy league, also winning the championship in the end.
So, there's a lot of catch-up to be done for the other teams.
I started with keepers Reggie Wayne and Frank Gore. Last year, I was destroyed by injury-filled and subpar seasons, which dropped me from the playoffs two years ago to almost the basement last year.
I got lucky to get Reggie Bush with my first regular pick, as I had decided to drop Antonio Gates. I was hoping to pick up another #1 back, and I got very lucky to snatch him up.
Oh, and VY: screw you.
So, here's the team I ended up with, titled "Drop the Hammer":
QB: Ben Roethlisberger, Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia
RB: George Bush, Al Gore, Reggie Bush, Frank Gore, Rudi Johnson, Michael Turner
WR: Reggie Wayne, Anquan Bolden, Santana Moss, Joey Galloway
TE: Vernon Davis, Alge Crumpler
D: Colts, Texans
K: Shayne Graham
Between having both PA quarterbacks, Bush, and Gore, maybe I should re-name my team "Swing State".
It feels pretty well-rounded, but not superstars at any position - but since consistency was severely lacking last year, we'll hope for the best this year.
Oh, and with the season starting tomorrow night, I guess I should actually make some real NFL season predictions. I only hit 4 of 8 division champs, and completely flubbed the end-game.

Oh, and I forgot to put this in my last post, but John Derbyshire is still an idiot. A cranky idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. I know it's a week old, but that sort of atittude is borderline ridiculous.

I love Derybshire's attitude and his sticking to his guns. So he comments on how pathetic our presidential choices are this year? He's right.
I know you're on the McCain bus now. Fair enough. But since you're calling out Derbyshire for merely being consistent, I can't resist strolling down memory lane to see the very opposite approach.
Guess who said all of the following? (and who was absolutely correct in doing so as well):
I would not vote for McCain in any way - I would vote for Obama before I pulled the lever for McCain.
I'm not too thrilled about this outcome, and if McCain is on the top of the ticket it will be very difficult for me to go to the polls on Nov. 2.
Watched a bit of the debate and remembered why I hate McCain so much, the lying douchebag.
Unless you like McCain and Hillary. Then you're probably happy. Me, I think I'll sharpen my survivalist skills if either of them gets elected.
Pretty good lines make all for the Obama campaign...or for the libertarian protest vote, of course! :-)

That's quite fair. It was going to be very dififcult to pull the lever without some dramatic changes.
Well, they all happened.
There is a law pending now which would clarify the UIGEA to pertain to just sports gambling, and not poker. I'm fine with that.
Amnesty was removed from the platform. Check.
ANWR is in the platform in a good way. Check.
A VP candidate was selected with the conservative viewpoints we've often shellacked McCain for. Check.
Obama tacks really, really hard to the left instead of to the center. Check.
Huckabee gets pushed aside. Check.
Unlikely turn of events - but all required for a change of heart on this race.
I know. But look at the history of American politics of all sorts of persuasions. When major changes happen within months of an election, these changes prove to be blatant pandering for votes. How can the results of a 30 year career be erased by 3 months worth of changed opinions? They can't and I predict if McCain wins, the coming years will prove it.
Obama will pass 75% of Pelosi's agenda. McCain probably passes 50% of it. But in the latter scenario, Pelosi's agenda ends up being passed with GOP backing. Frightening thought.
Liberals love to protest when we drop the term "moral relativism" on them or charge that they lack core principles.
However, sometimes, in fairness, it has to be turned back on us.

Oh give me a break. I am so freaking tired of stupid meme that John McCain is some kind of quasi-socialist just itching to implement the Democrat agenda. McCain is not a perfect conservative, but he and Pelosi and the far left agree on very little. Perhaps instead of having a Speaker Pelosi, we should actually do something to see that she isn't speaker. Oh, but that wouldn't be punishing the GOP enough, so we can't do that.
As for that KKK-wannabe Derbyshire, he ceased being a useful commentator years ago. The whole Savage/Derbyshire axis of "pox on both your houses" crankyconservatism (the real deal) is frankly getting old and tired.
