Depressing End

Well, the Vick saga took a big but not surprising turn today. A plea deal was announced, with the particulars to come in a week.

Sentencing could occur in 60-90 days.

I heard about it on the way to class this afternoon, so I had a while to think about it all.

Even so, I still don't know how I feel about it.

Happy, because it looks like no one ends up above the law.

Sad, because of the potential that he had, both on the field and off, to be a good role model and community figure.

Pissed off, for a whole variety of reasons - none of them associated with the fact that Joey Harrington is the new starting QB.

At least a deal is reached - so it's essentially done and won't interfere much with the Falcons' season from this point on. No more debate about did-he-do-it/is-it-a-setup/what-happens-now that can affect the team.

Still, there's a lot of regret about what might have been. This is someone who could have really been a model citizen, a role model for lots of kids, the symbol of the franchise - and it's all been pissed away.

Rephrase: *he* pissed it all away. It really sucks for our Falcons, but I'm at least glad that Vick is finally admitting to it so that, like you said, there is never any question about if he did it or if it's a setup. I never had any doubt he was a part of the dog fighting - come on - it was at his house for 5 years. The unfortunate part is the Falcons will miss out and Vick will not get a fair amount of jail time, imo, for the awful things done to those dogs. A plea deal is easy time. At least now we can all move on.

I'm just glad I don't have to listen to any more stupid apologists - aside from Joe Horn, that is.
