I've learned now that when I'm playing, it's best NOT to have anything else going - TV, e-mail, anything.
Last night, I'm playing in the Mookie, and I've moved up to about 17th of 69 starters. I'm fairly focused, making moves when I need to, and avoiding big confrontations and committing myself too badly in any spot. Doing better than the previous couple of outings.
I get an e-mail notification. It's from a company I interviewed with on Friday, who I can now name....Accenture. I'd interviewed about a support role with them Friday and had thought it had gone quite well.
Apparently not. I got a form letter e-mail notifying me that I was not going to be offered the position after all, after I'd thought I was in pretty good shape to get it.
Well, after that, I started to not play so well, and donked out in 42nd of 69. I made a couple of raises out of position with medium pairs, and committed myself too much in hands I should have tried to see cheaply. By the time I had to push all in, I only had an M of 4 so I have to push in the blind and hope. Unfortunately, I'll probably get called with anything - and the A-9 held up to knock me out.
I also tried a Sit and Go - bounced in 4th, but again, not playing clearly.
I finally sat down at a Cap NL game, at a micro-limit table. I'm not playing anything higher in my frame of mind.
Which is too bad, considering the hand that went down:

So he calls my flop bet with top pair, bets out with top two pair, but after I call and then check, he bets big to take it. He almost played it perfectly to lose the minimum until the river. Given how he bet the turn, I thought he would fire one out on the river if I just called the turn bet and I could get the max - which is what happened, since he thought he was ahead with his two pair.
Getting a read online.........too bad the rest of that session didn't go as well. Other players came in and knocked me around a bit. But, hey, you don't get a straight flush too often.
Hopefully, tonight will be better overall:

Straight flush + getting paid = nice.
