No, not right now.
Probably after 2010.
Smoltzie signed an extension today, which could end up lasting through 2010, ensuring he finishes his probable Hall-of-Fame career in Atlanta.
(1 Cy, 195-138, and 154 Sv, 2800 K, 3.28 ERA)
Good. It's how he should go out.
Now here's hoping he gets another ring before leaving - because if not, that means a drought of 15 years, which at this point Mets fans may be familiar with, hitting that point six years ago :)
In related Atlanta sports news, Michael Vick doesn't like puppies very much.

Smoltz to retire

Yes, it will be quite the drought since the ONE sports championship the city of Atlanta has won in its entire history. They could have won more, alas, but they lost to the Yankees twice, and we all remember how despondent you were about those results. :)
I didn't say my drought, I said the city's drought. Of course, ten yesrs ago I still considered myself a New Yorker as well - which I'm probably pretty far from now.
Of course, with one more title in Atlanta, the Braves would tie the Mets in Series wins.
It would be a shame if Smoltz ended up with only one ring after 15+ playoff appearances (assuming there's one more in the next 4 years). He was always good in the postseason, unlike other Braves' starters.
I was just joshing ya.
Yeah, Smoltz was always the clutch guy in the Braves run. His post-season numbers:
15-4, 2.65 ERA, 194 Ks in 207 IP.
To be fair, Maddux and Glavine weren't that bad.
Glavine:14-16, 3.42 ERA
Maddux: 11-14, 3.34 ERA (and his series with the Cubs and Dodgers bring down his numbers)
At any rate, it is actually nice that Smoltz will have spend his entire career in one uniform. How did that Doyle Alexander work out for the Tigers? (Yes, I know they won the division in 1987, but still.)
