funny pictures of cats with captions

Yes, it is cold enough here to make the statue at right. The wind-chill every day has been in the single-digits, and the temperature has not been above freezing, so the half-inch of snow which arrived yesterday is staying on the ground for now.
Almost all schools closed today, and most businesses were delayed or closed outright.
FOR A QUARTER-INCH OF SNOW.
I've been at work all day, wondering again why everyone panics when just a couple flakes fall from the sky. It's humorous at first, but then you have to just shake your head in response to the insanity.

Naturally, everyone in Atlanta decided to PANIC and storm their stores for all the bread, milk, and water that could be carried, or plow into 30-car pileups just a few minutes after the snow starts falling.

Beyond that, in the first week of trying to lose weight, I have somehow managed to lose four pounds. I would like to think that exercise has contributed greatly to the weight loss so far, but in reality it has come from skipping both breakfast and lunch on 5 of the first 7 days of the year. However, I don't think the Karen Carpenter diet is really the way to go.
OTOH, binge eating at night does not help either, as I ate a ton while watching Texas fall last night to Alabama out in Pasadena.
In Texas' defense, though, they were without a quarterback for 90% of the game and still stayed in the game until three minutes were left.
I didn't lke Alabama when they won in 1992, and I don't like them now.
So when does Alabama play Boise State?

Way TMI

Self-esteem is a great thing to have, especially as a poker player - you need to have that sort of attitude.

But ya know, there are probably some things you shouldn't say when the camera is rolling. Even if it is NBC and no one is watching.

Below, from Celebrity Apprentice, Annie Duke:

Keyword Mashup

New York Jets.

O. J. Simpson's lawyer.

Lesbians fighting.

Flames and fire.

Yes, that really happened. It's not the plot for some bad late night movie on Skinemax.

"Casey had a fight one night with her current girlfriend," heavily tattooed Lisa Marie Alvarez, a Los Angeles source, told Page Six. "Casey went to Courtenay's house, and Courtenay proceeded to beat the crap out of her, and then she lit her hair on fire. Casey had to be hospitalized."

Casey's mother, Sale Johnson, reportedly flew to LA and consulted with lawyer Robert Shapiro. No one returned calls except Courtenay, whose father Terry Semel ran Yahoo for years. Casey — who isn't speaking to her father, or her aunt, Libet Johnson — is the mother of an adopted girl from Kazakhstan.

And you thought throwing three picks against the Dolphins was bad.

Even more? Apparently Semel is involved with Tila Tequila and/or Lindsey Lohan. I can't tell for sure, and performing those sort of in-depth keyword searches would probably not be a good idea.

I can't tell and would rather not know.

This concludes your moron post of the day.

A marathon, not a sprint

According to the site, there are other track-sounding events that might be interesting.

Some are the Pole in the Vault, Clean and Jerk, and Shot Putting.

Overall, though....THAT'S JUST WRONG. I'm not referencing any of the other "events".

I imagine most folks will wait until 2010 for the Winter Games in Vancouver, instead of going to the Sex Olympia in Australia in 2009. (THOROUGHLY NSFW!!!)

H/t to eddiebear - and I don't want to know how much time he spends finding all this weird crap.

They tried to make me go to rehab

A Chinese elephant that spent three years in rehab after animal smugglers laced his bananas with heroin will never be able to return to the wild.

Heroin in bananas? That's a wee bit on the sick side.

And yet, I link to it still.

It's Naked Clown Time!"

editor's note: Jesus, I fucking hate clowns. They creep me out about as badly as Cartman gets creeped out by hippies.

Thank God it's for charity, but this post makes me feel.......uurrrggghhh, eewwwww.

Easy costume to find

Actually, I did see this costume at Junkman's Daughter on Sunday when we were searching for a costume for Alex. We found some things for Sammie and us parents, but nothing that Alex could really wear.

Ronery

Apparently, Saddam Hussein may not have been the only Axis of Evil leader to lose power in 2003.

According to a Japanese expert (who may or may not be part of the drive to create better sex dolls), Kim Jong Il died in 2003.

He might also be a really, really big Dave fan.

The expert says Kim died of diabetes in 2003 and world leaders, including Vladimir Putin of Russia and Hu Jintao of China, have been negotiating with an imposter.

He believes that Kim, fearing assassination, had groomed up to four look-alikes to act as substitutes at public events. One underwent plastic surgery to make his appearance more convincing. Now, the expert claims, the actors are brought on stage whenever required to persuade the masses that Kim is alive.

You know what I'll miss most of all?

His beautiful singing voice.

End is nigh

Prepare thee for thy day of reckoning, the end is at hand. The apocalypse is nigh!

How do I know this?

Because my father, who is the most technologically naive person on the planet (or at least one of the higher-ranking Luddites) has now gotten a cellphone.

This must be one of the signs of impending doom for us all. Thank God he hasn't figured out these crazy intertube thingabobs.

/sarcasm off.

Spam alert

I'm sure he has some friends in Nigeria who can put him up in tough times.

‘Spam King’ escapes from federal prison by ZDNet's Ryan Naraine --

Edward “Eddie” Davidson, a notorious e-mail spammer who was sentenced to jail time in April, has escaped from a federal prison camp in Florence, Colorado. Davidson (left), also known as the “Spam King, made a run for it when his wife visited him last Sunday and is now officially listed in “escape” status, according to a [...]

Curious Searching

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if everyone who comes here searching for "atlanta barbie" is looking for something like this?

Strangely, that and "strip fire" have been most common in search terms.

Apparently, it's time for Barbie to go down to Ponce or Metropolitan Pkwy:

Personally, it seems more like a rocker outfit, but that could just be my interpretation.

Whatcha gonna do, IKEA boy?

I guess this is the next logical step of Midtown NY, given the influx of young urban narcissists as Lost City refers to them.

Just remember, the second rule of Fight Club is, YOU DO NOT...TALK...ABOUT FIGHT CLUB.

Where will Project Mayhem begin?

I know there's been a lot of NY stuff lately but, well, there is a lot of weird stuff going on there. It must be something in y'all's water or just Sex and the City backlash.

AlCantHang did a contest a few months ago relating to bacon and its many uses, flavors, and forms.

Horny bastard

I consider my drive from home to work to be very relaxing.

I take back roads, through the Kennesaw Mountain area, and sometimes I get to see deer.

Every day, I drive past a farm which has goats, emus, llamas, horses, and geese. Really, I don't see how you can get upset when you see a llama.

I've had two strange wildlife encounters in the last week.

First, I was walking outside of my office, which is near McCollum Airport. While in the parking lot, three geese walked toward me in the parking lot and just...stared. I stared back for a minute, and then we all kept going on our way.

Second (and the inspiration for this title), I was driving back to work from home, after eating lunch and checking on the dog (who also has a tumor, but non-cancerous, in her hip). I made my turn by the farm, and I saw the goat, llama, and other animals as I normally do.

Except, this time, the goat was not standing in the field behind a fence.

It was standing half-on, half-off the road.

Being a slow-moving car, I wasn't too panicked about hitting it. I guess it had jumped the fence - I didn't see a hole in the fence and other animals outside the farm. I creeped forward slowly, and the goat moved off to the side so I could continue back to work.

No, I did NOT get out of the car and try to chase the goat back to where it belonged, or try to offer it food.

I did not go that way on the way back home at the end of the day, so I guess I will find out tomorrow if the goat is back where it belongs...or is still roaming free. I haven't seen anything on the news yet, since we had our 4,376th tornado of 2008 in Georgia tonight.
