Denzel Washington, and Brooks Army Medical Center Personnel

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States , especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses.

The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC,
they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses.
He asked how much one of them would cost to build.
He took his checkbook out and wrote a check for
the full amount right there on the spot.
The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story
and want to get the word out to the American public,
because it warmed their hearts to hear it.



The question is:
Why do Brad Pitt, Madonna, Tom Cruise and other Hollywood
fluff make front page news with their ridiculous antics
and
Denzel Washington's Patriotism
doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro
section of any newspaper except
the local newspaper in San Antonio .



A true American and friend to all in uniform!

Relaxed movie night

Well, we had a nice movie night, for two reasons.

1) We watched Devil Wears Prada. Yes, I found it funny. It had some amusing parts. Stanley Tucci really enjoyed doing this movie. Kim really liked it. I found it funny and tolerable. Not sure I'd watch it again, but fairly decent on celluloid.

2) Oh, yeah, I also started turning things around on Full Tilt. Yay for forum events! Even if it is a small buyin, it's nice to win SOMETHING after bombing in tournaments and bloggerments all week.

So, between this, winning a HORSE tournament with 260 people, and winning 3 buyins on Stars NLHE tables, this has actually been a pretty good week.

Maybe it has to do with less stress and more time. I actually managed to knock out a BIG work item just after putting the kids to bed. I still have work stuff to do tomorrow with launching a new app at work, so tomorrow is when I activate a lot of the features, but the fact that I have only work to worry about is a lot more...relaxing?

I am going to the local country club on Friday, as a couple of us are being taken to lunch there by upper management for completing MBA's. It'll be a nice way to head into the holiday weekend.

I need to watch out - I'm in danger of being in a good mood for more than a couple of days. This just can...not...happen....under normal circumstances.

Then again, after three years of constant tumult, perhaps I forgot what normal circumstances are actually supposed to be.

Indulging Dorkiness

OK, I'll admit that I'm a tad interested in going to the movies to see Star Trek. I was thinking a little bit about even taking Alex, but some parts of the movie might be a bit too confusing or, um, advanced for his age.

Fine.

I've got three hangups, though.

1) How well it might fit in to other known qualities - kind of the same reservations I had about Batman Begins, I guess, what with the current trend of "rebooting" a bunch of past series.



2) Shaun of the Dead as Scotty?






3) Harold (as in Harold and Kumar) as Sulu?



Lastly, if weed is introduced in the movie, will the new Kirk start singing Rocket Man?

Friday Video Double Shot

Not one, but two videos today - I have a bunch of things I want to do later, so I'm getting one out of the way now for bandwidth's sake.

1) An American Carol - I wasn't sure what this movie was until Kim told me about it, and I have to agree, it looks extremely funny and much more interesting than Religulous, which attempts to use Borat humor and fails miserably.

2) I was trying to come up with something to summarize the bailout that did pass today, and sometimes the radio just puts on a song that matches up pretty well. I should have thought of it sooner, since I got Get A Grip pretty soon after it came out.

Another pregnancy outing

This time, Pamela Anderson.

The kid would probably be able to walk out when born.

So, let's see if I've got the right chronology...

She works up a $250,000 poker debt.

She pays it off to Rick Solomon in a very special way (but without videotape, thank God), during which time she "falls in love".

They get married in Vegas in between shows.

She files for divorce.

She recants the divorce.

Pregnancy revealed AND divorce proceedings begun again.

On the bright side, at least Danielynn Smith/Birkhead will have someone else whose life is just as screwed up.

I don't know who will announce they're preggers tomorrow - seems like a busy time, or at least a time for getting busy.

Men heartbroken nationwide

Apparently, Jessica Alba is pregnant.



I'll give you a few minutes to compose yourselves since she's apparently off the market now. Sorry, folks.


My top 5 was Jessica Alba, Monica Bellucci, Christina Aguilera, Halle Berry, and Jaime Pressley. In the past year, all five have gotten pregnant. I guess I need to revise the list a little, aside from having all names that end in a vowel or a "y".

Essence of McLovin

This is just weird.

Note to self

When feeling down, don't decide to watch The Grapes of Wrath.

It's one of the best movies of all time, but probably not good to watch when already feeling a bit down about things.

Might be because Christmas is over, might be because we're back home, might be because of work, might be a combination of everything and then some.

I did get through my readings for three classes today, so I suppose that's a good step in the right direction.

I'm hoping to put up some picture posts tomorrow from the trip, if I can get all the links to align correctly.

Dark Knight Trailer

Something seems ........ off. It doesn't seem right, but I think I'm comparing it too much to Jack Nicholson and Cesar Romero, wihch isn't quite right given the desired darker nature of this set of films.

It still doesn't seem right, though.

Cultural leanings for make benefit gloriuos nation of award shows

I was stuck watching part of the Golden Globes tonight, as equal trade for watching 14 hours of football this weekend.

One of the awards shocked me when it was presented.

Best Actor in a Movie (Comedy or Musical) was presented to Sacha Baron Cohen.

Yes, BORAT.

He did remember to thank everyone in the U.S. who hasn't sued him yet.

And he appeared out of character for once, actually appearing as himself.

Take from the award show what you will.

Good taste

Yesterday was a calm day, and we all stayed home as some of us did not feel well.

On days like these, it's quite easy to just curl in front of the TV.

We let Alex watch a few things during the day, but he was most excited about one clip.

Not Toy Story, Clifford, or any other cartoon.

No, he enjoyed THIS clip most of all yesterday. Complete with random two-year-old dancing.

At least he is acquiring some good taste.



Too bad I don't have an old Halloween picture available to show him.

Samuel L. Jackson REALLY wants you to see this movie.
